The Company

Our client is an AIM listed mineral resources company with a major Iron Ore expansion requiring investment in a large port and rail facility in West Africa. 

The Role

Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Training Superintendent – Port and Rail operations will be responsible for engaging the content experts such as operators, tradesmen in the transfer of knowledge by: 

  • Setting up training systems and coordinating outcomes through sound leadership of training team
  • Providing sound and progressive training management processes and practices
  • Providing end to end training and development needs for the Port and Rail operations
  • Coordinating Port and Rail operations personnel training and development
  • Managing and controlling manpower resources for the Port and Rail operations
  • Developing training strategies, objectives and targets
  • Conducting training needs analysis in collaboration with stakeholders 

The Requirements

As the successful candidate, it is essential that you possess the following skills and experience: 

  • Minimum 7 years in a port or rail environment of which 3 years should be at supervisory level.
  • Understanding of Port and Rail operations including ship loading/Unloading, ore handling, stockpiling and rail operations
  • Tertiary Qualification in Mining, Logistics or Human Resources
  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or equivalent
  • Training and experience as a qualified port operator or maintenance tradesman and/or in a rail operations capacity
  • Experience in technical training systems
  • Excellent skills in MS Office
  • Excellent interaction skills
  • Experience in working in a developing country preferably in Africa
