The Company

Our client is a LSE-listed mining company committed to the development, construction and operation of a multi-billion dollar Iron Ore project in West Africa. With key Senior Management leading the company and a reputation for previous success they now seek an experienced, qualified and senior professional to Project Manage their Port, Rail & Mine construction in West Africa.

The Role

Reporting to the Vice President - Infrastructure, the Project Manager will initially oversee and lead a Brownfields Rail, Port, Mine & Haul Road refurbishment and then manage a longer term world class multi-billion dollar Greenfields construction project.

The Project Manager shall be responsible for:
  • Developing a project execution plan including scoping, prioritising, planning & resourcing for all Infrastructure Rail & Port and Mine & Haul Road construction in both the Brownfields and Greenfields environments.
  • Managing the EPCM Contractor to ensure all aspects of the Project are aligned with the broader Definitive Feasibility Study and broader organisational concerns.
  • Controlling the scope of various contracts, sub-contractors and third parties to ensure that processes and disciplines are in place to optimise and align each party with main project deliverables
  • Ensuring that adequate standards, policies and processes are implemented for the Project, Engineering, Cost Management, Health, Safety & Environment and Human Resources areas throughout the duration of the Project.
  • Ensuring all aspects of the Project reflect and respond appropriately to the significant concerns relating to the wider social, environmental and political implications of operational mining in Africa.
  • Providing guidance & oversight of the tendering , procurement and cost control processes throughout the Project
  • Delivering effective and meaningful reports and documentation to support the Project focussed on progress and performance within the agreed & defined project boundaries
  • Supervising all Project Team resources and people

The Requirements

As the role is a large & critical position within the organization it will best suit a team-orientated person with a high level of drive, enthusiasm and determination to succeed.

Additionally, it is essential that applicants can display:

  • Minimum tertiary level qualifications in Engineering (or related discipline)
  • Qualifications in Project Management
  • Minimum 10 years experience at management level in EPCM, Contractor or Owner-mining environments
  • Minimum 7 years experience in Project Management roles within industry on large-scale construction projects preferably with Iron Ore operations
  • Previous African and/or remote overseas roles experienced with liaising and working with Governmental & Local Officials
  • Effective written & verbal communication with the EPCM Contractor, Senior Management & Operational Staff
  • Experience in the management, administration & execution of Contracts
  • Computer literacy with desktop operating systems, scheduling packages and MS Office tools
